COUNTY OSCAs PRESENTED AT KNYPERSLEY
The Staffordshire Cricket Outstanding Service To Cricket Awards 2009 took place at Knypersley C.C. on Sunday. The awards to celebrate the many volunteers involved in cricket with all the winners then going onto the national awards at Lords in October.
The 'Lifetime Achiever' award was won by Jack Wootten (Springvale).
Jack played for Thompsons CC and was an active committee member Chairman and first eleven Captain. He was a driving force in the club and insisted upon good conduct, smart turnout and respect for the opposition and Umpires.
When he stopped playing in the early 1970s he turned his attention to League committee work and became Chairman of the Wolverhampton and District Cricket League in 1975 and held the post until 1992 when they amalgamated with the SCCC.
Jack was a member of the SCCC executive committee, giving wise counsel, from 1992 upto 2000 when he was elected President and following a two year tenure was made a Life Member.
His excellent service to cricket both on and off the field spans more than 50 years and to date is a regular attendant at SCCC functions and spends many hours watching at Springvale CC and still gives the young players his advice on their conduct and dress, always thanks the umpires and in return is highly respected by all his cricketing friends who are many.
