Chairman’s Report 2011

We have enjoyed another successful year with our sponsors CICADA SPORTS and are now half way through a 4 year deal.

In terms of membership, we are sorry to report that Willenhall have disbanded and reduced our clubs to 37 in total.

Unfortunately we had to postpone the Annual presentation Evening (now to be held on 4th March) but congratulations to all Divisional Winners and in particular our Champions, Wednesbury Cricket Club who are promoted to the Birmingham League. Penkridge were winners of the KO and Hawkins and Whittington were promoted into the top division, Performance of the Year was by Kelton Scott of Bloxwich CC who scored 5 centuries in the season: Junior Performance of the Year was by Sohail Khan of West Bromwich Dartmouth who, at the tender age of 15, achieved figures of 7 for 23 including the hat-trick to win the match. Clubman of the Year was Chris Hallam of Old Wulfs and Tettenhall for his work with the junior section of that club over many years. Mick Wilkins was Umpire of the Year in Division One and Andy Martin had the besr average scores in Division Two. The Executive’s thanks go to the Hammerwich club for staging the KO Finals` Day.

Again, we played a number of Representative Games including one against Pelsall Cricket Club to celebrate their 125th Anniversary. On your behalf, I should like to thank Brian Fisher (Hammerwich) and Craig Cartwright (Wednesbury) for managing the SCCC team. Brian will be addressing you later about matches in the coming season.

I should like to thank my executive committee for all their sterling work over the past year and to comment that you are well served by all the members of “Exec”. There are some important changes to the constitution and playing regulations for the coming season so we ask all captains to take note of these and bear with us if there are any teething problems!

We should also be grateful to Fred Barrett and his ever expanding panel of umpires and the Executive would encourage all players to support them both on and off the field – a post match pint is always appreciated!

In closing, I wish all clubs and officials the very best for 2011.

Bill Tranter
