COUNTY OSCAs PRESENTED AT KNYPERSLEY

The Staffordshire Cricket Outstanding Service To Cricket Awards 2009 took place at Knypersley C.C. on Sunday. The awards to celebrate the many volunteers involved in cricket with all the winners then going onto the national awards at Lords in October.

The 'Lifetime Achiever' award was won by Jack Wootten (Springvale).

Jack played for Thompsons CC and was an active committee member Chairman and first eleven Captain. He was a driving force in the club and insisted upon good conduct, smart turnout and respect for the opposition and Umpires.

When he stopped playing in the early 1970s he turned his attention to League committee work and became Chairman of the Wolverhampton and District Cricket League in 1975 and held the post until 1992 when they amalgamated with the SCCC.

Jack was a member of the SCCC executive committee, giving wise counsel, from 1992 upto 2000 when he was elected President and following a two year tenure was made a Life Member.

His excellent service to cricket both on and off the field spans more than 50 years and to date is a regular attendant at SCCC functions and spends many hours watching at Springvale CC and still gives the young players his advice on their conduct and dress, always thanks the umpires and in return is highly respected by all his cricketing friends who are many.

I have tried to make the website more fun by producing a weekly report on the divisions by highlighting individual scores etc. Over the last two weeks out of 92 home matches played only 6 clubs bothered to leave any details so reluctantly I have decided not to bother producing any more reports. I appologise to those of you have sent details in.

The deal will be initially for one year and will be extended for a further 3 years subject to year one being successful for both parties.

Cicada Sports is run by former Warwickshire Cricketer Phil Oliver and his partners Alex Williams and Steve Copson from their showroom in Great Bridge, and is a one stop shop for all Cricket Supplies as well as catering for Football Hockey Rugby and many other Sports.

In the first year Cicada Sports will provide a four figure sum for the league, and also provide Each Club with a set of Match stumps, provide league umpires with Umpires Blousons, Sponsor the Batting and Bowling awards for each division, providing the best batsman with a top of the range Cicada brand bat and best bowler with a voucher for a pair of bowling boots and provide the league Representative Teams with Shirts, Sweaters Track Suits and caps.
